BACKGROUND: Since 1952, Beacon Group has been creating opportunities for people with disabilities across Southern Arizona, Phoenix and beyond. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, Beacon serves over 1,700 people with disabilities each year. Beacon provides job training and placement, supported and center-based employment, and day treatment programs to assist the more than two-thirds of working-age people with disabilities who do not have a job. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide instruction on GED test preparation for all required subjects (civics, math, science, language arts, and social studies).
  • Provide employment related computer skills training including but not limited to, basic computer literacy, typing skills, web safety, Microsoft Office applications, and general workplace computer skills.
  • Provide skills development and training such as, life skills, social skills, self-advocacy, budgeting, communication, and other skill development areas as identified by clients' service plans.
  • Provide student support for clients enrolled or interested in enrolling in college programs for admission and registration, course selection and enrollment, exploring funding options, requesting accommodations, preparing for classes, study skills, and organization.
  • Assign and grade/review independent study activities that are developmentally appropriate and suitable to clients' individual learning needs.
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation for all services provided in a timely manner.
  • Conduct ongoing follow-up with assigned clients to promote regular participation in vocational services
  • Communicate weekly and as needed with Vocational Services Manager to provide relevant updates on client progress, service plan changes, and concerns.
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop lesson plans, instructional resources, and new approaches to training.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to view a computer monitor and operate a keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, clients, and the public Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years in instructional software/Course
  • Professional, teaching, training, or tutoring experience and 1 year of direct support work experience with adults diagnosed with a physical or mental disability and/or additional barriers to employment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and Email (A+ helpful)
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Current registration and insurance coverage

  • Have a valid Arizona Driver's License and pass the Beacon driving test
  • Successfully pass the drug test and background check
  • CPR/First Aid certification, or able to obtain and maintain a CPR/ First Aid Certification
  • Article IX be able to obtain and maintain certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Evidence of organization and oral presentation skills.

WORK HOURS AND SCHEDULE: At least 10 hours a week no more than 25
