Summary:
The Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the production of high-quality products through effective administration of product/process quality, inspection, and testing controls in compliance to ASME code for pressure vessels and ISO9001 quality system requirements. In this hands-on position, the primary function will be to execute all quality control inspection activities on product/process including regulatory, which includes all essential duties and responsibilities to ensure continuity of compliance to ASME requirements. Likewise, in alignment with ISO9001, the incumbent will support effective execution of QMS processes and contribute to implementation of effective quality controls to enhance performance for increased efficiency and cost-effectiveness to positively impact quality objectives and metrics of performance. This position requires maintaining a positive and productive cross-functional partnership with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales departments and ASME relevant authorities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.
- The primary responsibility of the Quality Specialist is to effectively perform incoming, in-process and final inspection activities of Vapor Power products and processes. Ensure product compliance is maintained throughout the process; it's documented and recorded as per QMS requirements. Most importantly, that product meets regulatory and customer specifications and requirements prior to shipment.
- Likewise, the Quality Engineer is responsible to ensure effective processes and controls are in place to safeguard product compliance to ASME code requirements for Pressure Vessels thus ensuring, that product meets regulatory and customer specifications and requirements prior shipment.
- Conduct periodic evaluations of manufacturing processes to ensure Quality requirements and controls for applicable regulation requirements (ASME) are effectively implemented and maintained.
- Owns the overall ASME compliance program which includes 3 main aspects:
- Welder training/certification program (welder's testing/certification, continuity log, eye exams etc.)
- ASME compliance reporting
- Responsible for consolidation of product verification and validation reports/records for master file per ASME/QMS requirements and where applicable, attain corresponding sign-off from designated Authorized Inspector (A.I.)
- Responsible for timely verification of product drawings and specifications in compliance with ASME requirements and where applicable attain a corresponding sign-off from designated Authorized Inspector (A.I.)
- Coordinate and host Authorized Inspector (A.I.) for onsite witnessed inspections.
- ASME testing: The QE is responsible for conducting and/or coordinating successful and timely completion of applicable ASME non-destructive testing requirements through internal or external sources and effective reporting of results.
- Active participation in the internal and external audit program (ASME, QMS, suppliers, customers) for continuous accreditation and compliance.
- Conduct periodic evaluation of inspection methods, protocols, tools, mechanisms, and equipment; to assess its effectiveness and/or identify areas of improvement as part of our cost reduction efforts.
- As the process owner for Control of Non-conforming product (NCP), leads the overall NCP reaction plan, including investigation, risk assessment as well as tracking and reporting trends, actions and results related to product disposition.
- As the process owner for Customer Complaints, leads all aspects of the investigation process (Root Cause Analysis - RCA) and Corrective and Preventie Action (CAPA) processes for Franklin Park operation, and ensure they are executed in a timely manner and that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability principles. Tracks status and report KPI performance.
- Assist with tracking and reporting product/process data and generating monthly reports of performance (KPIs) to the Director of Quality.
- Participates as assigned in programs, projects, or initiatives as they apply to correction, prevention and/or improvement of product or process quality such as VMS, Kaizen or Lean events. As applicable it will coordinate standardization and implementation of the relevant best practices between Franklin Park and Morristown facilities
- Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner.
- Travel domestic ≤ 5%.
- Observe all safety precautions, rules, and regulations. Complies with and helps enforcing standard policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
The incumbent shall have hands-on/applied working knowledge in ASME code for Pressure Vessels and/or holding a current CWI - Certified Welder Inspector accreditation, either one or both is highly desirable.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (preferred) or equivalent technological discipline such as Industrial, Electrical or similar certification. And/or 5-8 years of hands-on/applied working knowledge in ASME code for Pressure Vessels. In Lieu of CWI certification, the incumbent shall commit to complete ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design & Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training within six months from the start of their employment.
- Strong knowledge and/or demonstrated hands-on experience with ISO 9001 QMS regulated processes and structure, particularly in manufacturing and quality engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and Corrective and Preventive Action processes.
- Demonstrated experience reading, interpreting, reviewing, engineering drawings and GD&T, understanding application of engineering mechanical protocols and regulations, engineering calculations and specifications,
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, MS project, etc.)
- Proven record of KPI implementation and reporting (dashboards)
Skills and Abilities:

The following skills and abilities (or certifications) are not required but preference shall be given to candidates that meet these preferred competences.
- ASQ - CQE
- Use of Tableau, Power BI or similar.
- ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or, 3-5 years of LEAN Manufacturing implementation/application experience.
- Working knowledge of FMEA, Control Plan, RCA, Process Control, Product Evaluation and Auditing
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Physical Demands:
This position requires moderate lifting and walking. Annual eye exams are also required and are covered by Precision Boilers.
Work Environment:
This position must perform tasks that involve some office exposure sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer. Most of his/her time, the Quality Engineer will spend in the plant with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 20 pounds. Steel toe shoes, earplugs and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor.
