Vapor Power is currently in search of a Quality Specialist who will play a pivotal role in ensuring the production of high-quality products through effective administration of product/process quality, inspection, and testing controls in compliance to ASME code for pressure vessels and ISO9001 quality system requirements.

In this hands-on position, the primary function will be to execute quality control inspection activities on product/process including regulatory, namely ASME compliance and enforce policies or guidelines for quality acceptance criteria, specifications, requirements, standards, etc., and utilize process outputs to identify areas of improvement to support department's performance and cost-reduction initiatives to positively impact quality objectives and metrics of performance.

This position requires maintaining a positive and productive cross-functional partnership with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales departments and ASME relevant authorities. This is an onsite position based in Franklin Park, IL.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively performing incoming, in-process and final inspection activities of Vapor Power products and processes ensuring product compliance is maintained throughout the process.
  • Conducting and/or coordinating successful and timely completion of applicable ASME product testing requirements.
  • Document and consolidate product verification and validation reports/records per ASME/QMS requirements.
  • Owns the overall ASME Welder training and certification program.
  • Conduct periodic evaluations of manufacturing processes, inspection methods, protocols, tools, mechanisms, and equipment to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of Qualiy Standards and applicable regulation requirements (ASME), and identify areas of improvement to support cost reduction efforts.
  • Ownership for Non-conforming product (NCP) and leads the overall NCP reaction plan.
  • Participate in the internal and external audit program (ASME, QMS, suppliers, customers) for continuous accreditation and compliance. Also participates in Customer Complaint and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Travel domestically 5%

Qualifications:

  • Current CWI - Certified Welder Inspector accreditation required.
  • Completion of ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design & Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training within six months of employment.
  • GED and/or equivalent technical discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.) and/or 5+ years of hands-on/applied working knowledge in manufacturing environments regulated by ASME code.
  • 5+ years performing quality control roles and duties.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and reviewing engineering drawings and GD&T, understanding engineering mechanical protocols and regulations, engineering calculations and specifications.
  • Proficient with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio)
  • Ability to deal with and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities and ability to work independently.
  • Essential knowledge and/or experience with quality system documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Able to effectively work with various functions and levels in the organization, ability to positively influence others.
  • Team player-minded, communicative, proactive, stress-resistant, assertive.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish a plus)

Physical Demands: This position requires moderate lifting and walking. Annual eye exams are also required and are covered by Vapor Power.

Work Environment: This position must perform tasks that involve spending all his/her time in the plant with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 20 pounds. Steel toe shoes, earplugs and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor. Exposure to sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer is minimum.
