EVENTS TECHNICIAN - ACE DIVISION

Department: Community and Economic Development

Division: Arts, Culture, and Events

Work hours: Must be available to work during days, nights, and weekend events. Up to 29 hours per week.

Rate of pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour (Depending on qualifications and experience.)


GENERAL PURPOSE

This position will assist with coordinating public and private events at the Ogden Amphitheater, the Dumke Arts Plaza, Union Station, and various other locations within Ogden City. Receives direct supervision from the Ogden Amphitheater Coordinator.


ESSENTIAL JOB JUNCTIONS

  • Opening and closing the venue
  • Communicate with event organizers prior to the event and on-site.
  • Greeting rental customers and event guests, assisting with event needs.
  • Answer questions and provide solutions to event organizers and event guests.
  • Assist with the needs of artists and promoters prior to and during events.
  • Act as lead staff for events; coordinating staff & volunteers in building and grounds before, during, and after events.
  • Assist in placement of vendors and exhibitors at events.
  • Set up and tear down venue assets such as tables, chairs, canopies, weights, and signage, before and after events.
  • Cleaning bathrooms, green-rooms, and grounds before and after events.
  • Assist with stage design and decorating for holidays and other events.
  • Place and remove barricades, fencing, traffic control signs, and no parking notices for events and road closures relating to events.
  • Place garbage cans for event use, roll garbage cans to curb for pick up, roll garbage cans back to the venue after pickup.
  • Assist with community partner events on occasion.
  • Assist supervisor with counting money when an event includes cash handling.
  • Fill out event-related forms and documents.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. The employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; the employee is required to communicate in person with the public during working hours and use on-site equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of customer service experience
  • Two years of experience working with the public
  • Event coordination experience
  • High school diploma or its equivalent preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Utah driver's license is preferred.
  • Food handlers permit from WMHD required after hire.
  • TIPS and SIPS training is preferred and can be obtained after hire.
  • Employees will be required to complete NIMS training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, understand and execute directions given in an event operation plan provided by the supervisor.
  • Maintains knowledge of Utah state mass gathering rules and Weber-Morgan Health District requirements for public gatherings.
  • Maintains knowledge of UDABS rules and requirements for beverage service at a public gathering.
  • Ability to comply with all city policies and regulations, including safety and risk management standards.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing, operating assigned equipment.
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of: Making sound decisions, demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is primarily indoors and outdoors, which may expose the employee to moderate to very loud noises, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high and places, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibrations.
  • This position requires heavy work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must possess the visual ability to see clearly at close (less than 20 inches) and far (20 feet or more) distances, identify and distinguish colors, observe an area that can be seen up and down or the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: standing, walking, sitting, using hands and fingers to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, lifting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, and smelling.
