Kids On The Move, Inc. (KOTM) is a nonprofit organization located in Orem, UT. KOTM supports the development of young children and families by "empowering families, one child at a time." KOTM provides services through five main programs: Early Intervention, Early Head Start, Child Care, Respite Care and KOTM's Autism Center.


SUMMARY OF POSITION: The EHS Kitchen Assistant will support the EHS Kitchen Manager in preparing quality food that meets or exceeds the standards of the CACFP program for all children enrolled in the KOTM Food Program. The Kitchen Assistant will help to ensure consistency in the kitchen by maintaining accurate record keeping, food inventory, and daily meal preparation services on occasions when the EHS Kitchen Manager is unavailable.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the EHS Kitchen Manager, the Kitchen Assistant will:

  • Prepare meals for all children enrolled in the KOTM Food Program, strictly following a scheduled and approved menu.
  • Keep up-to-date information on all children's food allergies, working with teachers and program staff to ensure accurate information from parents.
  • Follow the CACFP Food Reimbursement program guidelines, including all documentation of food purchases, menu planning, meal service tracking, and all paperwork involved (Daily).
  • Responsible for kitchen organization and clean-up (Daily).
  • Be capable of fully and effectively running the KOTM Kitchen without the help of the EHS Kitchen Manager, when necessary.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Keep the kitchen and all storage and workspace clean and organized (Daily).
  • Attend KOTM and EHS program meetings (Monthly).
  • Prepare meals and snacks for all programs when needed.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two plus (2+) years' experience working in a commercial kitchen.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY:

  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards as they pertain to CACFP/Nutrition
  • Follow food safety/kitchen licensure requirements
  • Valid Food Handler Permit (must be kept current at all times)
  • Serve Safe Certification (must be kept current at all times)

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Work is predominately in the kitchen with typical kitchen environmental factors
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Repeated bending, kneeling and stooping
  • Finger/wrist movement for prolonged periods of time
  • Operating office equipment
  • Mobility in an office setting
  • Must be able to see and hear with or without an Aide
  • Must be able to operate small kitchen appliances as well as oven, and stovetop

Post-Offer/Pre-Hire REQUIREMENTS:

  • Approval through EHS Policy Council is required to finalize the hire
  • Medical certification that employee can perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations within two weeks of hire and every five years thereafter
  • Must pass a TB test upon receiving the job offer and prior to hire
  • Must pass a criminal background check upon receiving job offer and every five (5) years thereafter
  • Continuous CPR, First Aide, and Food Handlers certifications
  • Must have valid driver license and verification of Auto insurance compliant with Utah state requirements

EVALUATIONS:
Evaluations will be conducted by the supervisor at the conclusion of the first 90 days and semiannually thereafter, or at any other time deemed appropriate.
