AQUATIC FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

DEPARTMENT: Public Services

DIVISION: Recreation

Rate of pay: $16.00 - $27.00 depending on experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.


POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Recreation Aquatic Supervisor II, the Aquatic Fitness Instructor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading safe, effective, and engaging fitness classes at Ogden City aquatic facilities. The instructor promotes health and wellness in the community by providing a positive experience for participants of all skill levels and ensuring a safe aquatic environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design and deliver fun, dynamic, and effective water aerobics or fitness classes tailored to various fitness levels and age groups.
  • Provide clear instructions and demonstrate exercises to ensure proper form and safety.
  • Modify exercises as needed to accommodate participants with varying abilities.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive class environment by enforcing facility rules and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor participants during classes to prevent injuries or accidents.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, administering first aid or CPR if necessary.
  • Greet participants and provide excellent customer service to ensure a positive experience.
  • Address questions or concerns from participants in a professional and timely manner.
  • Keep accurate records of class attendance and submit reports as required, including lesson plans.
  • Ensure timely setup and teardown of equipment and report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
  • Must consistently maintain minimum class enrollment of 90% capacity to ensure optimal program delivery and resource utilization.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in aquatic environments with exposure to water, humidity, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to push, pull, or lift: 20 pounds frequently 50 pounds rarely.
  • Requires physical fitness to demonstrate and perform exercises.
  • While performing duties, the employee may occasionally need to climb, balance, jump, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Work involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks associated with responding to aquatic emergencies.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, chemicals, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
