Western States Lodging and Management is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Compensation & Benefits Specialist to join our growing team. In this dual-impact role, you will lead the development and execution of compensation and benefits strategies that are critical to attracting, retaining, and engaging exceptional talent.

You'll serve as a key advisor to HR and leadership, bringing together data-driven insights, market expertise, and a deep understanding of what motivates and supports high-performing teams.
Our Compensation & Benefits Specialist reports directly to the Compensation & Benefits Manager. This position is in person, Monday through Friday, from 8 am-5 pm. We are offering a competitive pay range of $ 77- 81k annually, depending on experience.
Key Areas of Impact
Compensation Strategy & Execution
- Design and manage competitive compensation structures, including base pay, short- and long-term incentives, and equity programs.
- Conduct in-depth market benchmarking and compensation analysis to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Partner with HR and business leaders to build scalable salary frameworks, job grading systems, and performance-based pay models.
- Lead compensation processes including annual merit reviews, promotions, and bonus planning cycles.
- Monitor compliance with all compensation-related laws and regulations (FLSA, Equal Pay Act, etc.).
Benefits Program Leadership
- Administer and enhance employee benefit offerings-including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
- Evaluate existing benefit programs for competitiveness, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with employee needs.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for all benefits-related inquiries from employees, managers, and HR partners.
- Partner with vendors, brokers, and internal stakeholders to manage benefit plan renewals, open enrollment, and ongoing education campaigns.
- Ensure compliance with applicable benefits laws and regulations (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, etc.).
Employee Education & Communication
- Develop comprehensive communication strategies to increase transparency and understanding around total rewards.
- Create and deliver materials, presentations, and tools that inform employees and leaders about compensation and benefit offerings.
- Provide coaching and guidance to HR partners and business leaders on offer packages, negotiation strategy, and employee inquiries.
Data, Reporting & Strategic Insight
- Analyze compensation and benefits data to support workforce planning and talent strategy.
- Generate detailed reports and dashboards to provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Use market data and internal trends to make informed recommendations on pay structures, benefit enhancements, and total rewards design.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Legal, and business leadership to ensure total rewards programs align with company objectives.
- Lead or support cross-functional projects to enhance the employee experience and operational excellence.
- Stay informed of emerging trends in compensation, benefits, wellness, and total rewards strategy to maintain a progressive approach.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in compensation and/or benefits, with a strong track record of program development, analysis, and compliance.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in HRIS and compensation/benefits platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Preferred:
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), or related certification.
- Experience with executive compensation and non-traditional benefit programs.
- Familiarity with systems such as Workday, SAP, PayScale, or benefits administration platforms.
